Beschreibung
Without any actions there would be nothing to reflect on. One could say, that "Reflections" is an evolutionary piece, a piece about how we develop as human beings. The "acting" is being done by the violin and the clarinet, in constanly developing individual - and ultimately joint - statements, while the piano peridocally "reflects" on these statements, evaluates, brings them in order before the next "actor" comes into the picture. And – as in any personal development – the further the piece goes, the closer it moves back, mirror-like, towards its opening statement, or – in other words – itself. "Reflections" is a 12 minute piece in one movement, which stylistically – like all my other chamber music pieces – contains a good measure of jazz spirit, paired with harmonic and structural elements of 20th century concert music. It was commissioned in 1999 by the Verdehr Trio. Gernot Wolfgang
